Children and Families Worker
Part-Time 20 hours a week (Including Sunday)
Salary: £15,000 - £17,000
St. Swithun's, East Grinstead is a large town centre parish church with an inclusive liberal-catholic tradition. The population of the parish is approximately 17,000. There are three primary schools and one Senior school in the parish and members of the staff team take assemblies in each primary school twice a term.
With our town centre position, we see ourselves as one of the key churches in East Grinstead with an average attendance of 180 adults at Sunday morning service.
Each week we see on average 7 children 0-3 in our creche, currently run by a small group of volunteers,at the back of church. We have up to 10 children aged 4-11 each week and they meet in our church hall with a small dedicated team of volunteers from the congregation. There is also a small group of 5 young people 10-13 who are led by volunteers.
We are also in touch with over 60 families who have had their children baptised in the last 2 years and a further 29 families who have services booked already this year. We have two toddler groups meeting on a Wednesday and a Friday morning in term time and once a month we hold a toddler’s service in church. This post stems from our desire within the Church Council to develop this essential work. We wish to help new families feel welcomed and become established in our church. We want to teach the children we currently have the basics of the Christian faith and to encourage them to be life-long disciples of Christ Jesus. We want them to take their place within the church, but above all to have fun learning about Jesus.
This role requires an enthusiastic and talented person with a passion for working with children and families. A person with a deep, informed and thoughtful faith to take on this exciting but also challenging role.
We offer a salary that recognises the challenges which includes sick pay, pension contributions and remuneration between £15-17,000 p.a. according to experience.
